I highly recommend traveling as a way to really kick start your brain and make you think outside the box. When you travel, nothing goes as planned. There are always things you don’t have or didn’t bring with you or obstacles in the way. The trick is to always go with the flow and be creative and find out solutions on the fly. Also the more you do this, the more your brain is able to figure things out for you so it eventually becomes second nature. Pretty soon, you begin to think in a flow state and it’s not even an issue for you anymore and it just starts happening naturally. The more you throw yourself out of your comfort zone, the more you seem to thrive. Traveling is a perfect way to do this. Here are a few ways that traveling optimizes your brain.

1. When you learn something new, you produce more B.D.N.F or Brain-Derived neotropic factor. This chemical neurotransmitter stimulates more synapses firing in the brain and the more you do this, the smarter you become. For example, I am currently going from Saltspring Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada to Victoria. Which is a bigger Island off the coast of Vancouver. I’m in my Volkswagen camper van named โ€œChiโ€. Due to having consecutive days without sun, my solar system in my van was really low on juice for my agm auxiliary battery. So the low power cut off switch kicked in, killing my fridge which was full of organic goodies. Needless to say, that is a disaster waiting to happen. So I was caught in a bind and had to think fast. So I thought of a brilliant solution. I have two batteries. One for operating the vehicle and the auxiliary battery to operate the fridge and my power from the solar system which was shut off. I had jumper cables. So I basically jumped the batteries together making one big battery. I also took the cables off intermittently to save power as the fridge is insulated. So I did all this while commuting and on the ferry to Victoria. When I got to the other side, I drove it to a coffee shop that had one of those plug-in stalls. I also have a battery charger in my van. So I plugged that in, ran the cord through a slit in the window and attached that to my battery. Now I’m having a nice bulletproof coffee while I’m charging up my auxiliary battery! I’m quite the boy scout and always try to plan ahead for such events. I’m also writing this blog in the meantime while my battery’s being charged which kills two birds with one stone. Which leads me to my next topic.

2. Traveling really helps you improve your efficiency. Life is a game of chess. The objective of the game is the least possible moves, with the most productive gains. I’m having a potluck at my hosts’ house tonight in Victoria. I want to make a yummy grassfed bone broth soup. I have one of those instapots, which pressure cooks the bones to get the collagen protein out but it takes 3 hours. I started cooking it in my van while commuting there. I think that’s the reason my solar system started dying. In fact, yup that’s definitely it! Anyways when I parked on the ferry, I continued cooking my broth by plugging it to one of those computer work stations. Needless to say, I got a lot of weird stares. But do I give a flying hoot nanny? Nope! Life’s too short. If you wanna get ahead in life you gotta stop caring about what other people think. I dropped that eons ago and it did wonders to improve my life. So when it was time to leave the ferry, I plugged it in my van again. Then I brought it with me to the coffee shop and plugged it in while I’m working on this blog. So now I’m killing 3 birds with one stone. Win, win, win!!! That’s how I roll. By the time I’ve finished this blog, I will have some yummy amazing grassfed bone broth soup. Mmmm, I can also most taste it.

3. Finally, you gain valuable experience while traveling so you can apply these tips and tricks in the future. Remember, knowledge is not power. It’s potential power. It’s only power if you use what you’ve learned. I had a similar experience with my auxiliary battery dying because of too many cloudy days. So I took the necessary steps to remedy this problem to prevent future mishaps. I went out and got a really good battery charger so I would be prepared. This is not the first time I had to use this trick. Another thing I learned from experience is to have some really good noise-canceling headphones to block out any potential shite music that may be playing to enhance productivity. So at this coffee shop, they were blasting out top 40 music while I’m trying to write this blog. Lord, kill me with a spoon now! Thankfully, I have my headphones handy and was able to put on some amazing binaural beats to put me into alpha state ( 8-12 Hz) for concentration. Problem solved, bam!

So I recommend getting out and traveling somewhere new at least once every 3 months. The world’s a beautiful place but you don’t know if you don’t go. Get out there and go explore, meet new friends and learn something new which will improve your life. I hope to bump into you somewhere in this big beautiful world. Until then, keep improvin and groovin to this funky beat of life!
