Hey there rockstars,  have you heard of the latest biohacking craze called methylene blue? No, it’s not a new indie band, it’s actually a powerful nootropic with many other benefits that’s exploding in popularity right now. The history of methylene blue dates back to the late 1800s when it was first discovered as a dye for textiles by the German chemist, Heinrich Caro. Fast forward to the 1970s and 80s, researchers found out about its cognitive and body-enhancing properties in animals and humans.

Some Precautions to Consider

Now before you start chugging the stuff like it’s blue gatorade, here’s a medical disclaimer before you get any ideas about suing my pants off. 😉Methylene blue can interact with certain medications, so if you’re taking anything, be sure to talk to your doctor first. Also, too high of a dosage can lead to side effects like nausea and vomiting, so start low and go slow. It’s also not recommended at least 3 hours before bedtime because of its stimulating effects.

In general, the recommended dosage of methylene blue is 1-2 ml per kg of body weight. For example, I weigh about 60kg so I started with 10ml and gradually increased the dosage to 90ml. Which is the optimal dose for me to feel all the benefits. This is 1.5ml/ per kg for my body weight and I dose about every 2-3 days and not daily. So experiment with what works best for you and remember to start low and go slow for the dosage.

Also, this crap gets everywhere so I recommend you scatter lots of newspapers on a table and use a set of measuring spoons to pour out the dosage. Then apply a thin film of vaseline on your lips and try to pour it into your mouth without touching the spoon. I find aiming for the roof of your mouth helps. Have a tissue handy to wipe off any spills. The only drawback is that it’s really bitter and tastes like a horse’s ass, so have a chaser ready if you want.  Your tongue will turn blue but that’s temporary and will be back to normal in a couple of hours.
